About Us
For almost thirty years, the Status of Women Office (SOWO) has made great strides in raising gender awareness across the University of Toronto.
Through research and communication programs, the Office has been successful in engaging members of the U of T community in equity initiatives.
Currently, SOWO's focus is on research and policy development centred on exploring the intersectionality of gender with other factors such as race, disability, sexual orientation and aboriginal status and the impact on the lived experiences of women in the U of T community. This research and policy work will be complemented by various events centered on gender issues across the three U of T campuses.
Prof. Njoki Wane is the Special Advisor for Status of Women Issues at the University of Toronto, a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Equity Studies in Education and the Director of the Office of Teaching Support at the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education (OISE) of the University of Toronto.
