Celebrate 100 years of International Women's Day

International Women's Day Reception

March 3rd 2011, 5.30-7.30pm

An evening reception celebrating 100 years of International Women's Day co-hosted by the Status of Women Office in conjunction with the Centre for the Study of Students in Postsecondary Education's Women's Perspective on Student Development Conference (http://css.oise.utoronto.ca).

Judy RebickGuest Speaker: Judy Rebick, 100 Years of International Women's Day: Multiple Perspectives on Women's Experience
Judy Rebick is a writer, activist and expert in social justice. She was the founding publisher of rabble.ca and is the author of several books, including 'Ten Thousand Roses: The Making of a Feminist Revolution'.

Remarks: 6.00pm

Light refreshments, cash bar and music.

Donations of self-care products appreciated (new cosmetics, toiletries, jewelry) for homeless and marginalized women, Queen West Community Health Centre.

"Shadeism" Screening & Discussion

Whiter is beautiful and darker is ugly? Or is it all in the eye of the beholder? What if the beholder is a "shadeist"? The negotiations with our skin tones speak volumes about our standards of beauty, our identities, and our relationships with each other. Add your voice to the critical dialogue about the experience of "shades" and join us for the screening of the made-in-Toronto student documentary, "Shadeism".

"Shadeism" Screening & Discussion

A film screening at U of T Scarborough of Shadesim, a documentary short recently produced by a group of Ryerson graduates that explores hierarchies and discrimination within and among communities of color. The screening is followed by discussion with the film's creators.
