- Professor Emeritus Ursula Franklin of engineering, the first female professor hired by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, receives an honorary degree from Ryerson University for her lifelong work as a human rights activist.
- Professor Elizabeth Edwards of chemical engineering has been named to the Canadian Academy of Engineering, along with nine alumni.
- Professor Lynne Viola of history is one of the newest recipients of one of UofT's most prestigious honours, University Professor.

- Four outstanding faculty members received the highest honour for teaching excellence at OISE - Shari Burnard Ostrom, Bonnie Burstow, Usha James, and Carolyn Wilson.

- Dean Cristina Amon of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering celebrated as one of the YWCA's 2011 Women of Distinction for her efforts in encouraging young women to pursue careers in science and engineering. Listen to an audio interview with the dean.
- Faculty of Information Professor Kelly Lyons is one of two Canadians to receive an IBM Smarter Planet Faculty Innovation Award.
- Professor Milica Radisic, one of UofT's Connaught Fund Innovation Award winners, has discovered how to prevent cell death in engineered tissue, a promising discovery for repairing "broken" hearts.
- Three female Engineering staff members of the Faculty's administrative and technical staff were honoured at the 4th annual Celebrating Engineering Success reception, in recognition of their achievements and contributions to the Faculty - Nelly Pietropaolo, Lesley Mak and Annie Simpson.
- Four women are amongst the staff members that received outstanding staff awards recently from the Faculty of Arts and Science - Angela Choi, Maria Gomes, Eileen Lam and Rosinda Raposo.

- June Larkin, a senior lecturer in the Women and Gender Studies Institute, Faculty of Arts and Science and Professor Susan Lieff of the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine received UofT's highest teaching honour, the President's Teaching Award.
- Lillian McGregor, the first elder-in-residence at UofT's First Nations House, is the recipient of a National Aboriginal Achievement Award.
- Helen Bright of engineering and Karen Reid of computer science were among the faculty, staff and students who were honoured at the UofT Alumni Association's awards ceremony. Read about all the awardees.

- AWEX Awards honour Influential Leader Catherine Gagne, a chief administrative officer for the faculty of applied science and engineering, among others. Gagne was awarded the Influential Leader Award, for 'a staff member who has continually demonstrated innovative leadership to achieve outstanding contributions to the university by motivating and empowering others'. - Professor Elizabeth Edwards of chemical engineering has been named the first director of BioZone, the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering's multidisciplinary centre for bioengineering research.

- Professor Elizabeth Abbott's, renowned historian and senior research associate at Trinity College, recent book "A History of Marriage" was nominated for the Governor-General's Literary Award for Non-Fiction.
- A book by Professor Ritu Birla from the Department of History called "Stages of Capital: Law,Culture and Market Governance in Late Colonial India" (Duke University Press 2009, Indian edition Orient Blackswan 2010), won the 2010 Albion Book Prize.
January 2011
- Professor Kelly Metcalfe's research paper has been selected for this year's Outstanding Paper Award at the scientist level by the Women's College Research Institute.
- Professors Brenda Andrews, Elizabeth Edwards, Freda Miller and Molly Shoichet have been elected Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
- University of Toronto Professor Emeritus Linda Hutcheon (English and the Centre for Comparative Literature) has been named an officer of the Order of Canada.
November 2010
- Cathy Riggall, the Vice President (Business Affairs) at the University of Toronto has been chosen as one of the 2010 “Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100” in the public sector leaders category.
- Professor Sabine Stanley of physics is the 2010 winner of the William Gilbert Award, given by the geomagnetism and paleomagnetism section of the American Geophysical Union. Stanley was nominated for important theoretical contributions to our understanding of planetary magnetism.

- On October 13, 2010 Sylvia Bashevkin discussed the low levels of representation of women in Canadian parliament in the Globe and Mail.
